"Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'what are you doing to help others?'"

"The only thing that separates successful people from the ones who aren't is the willingness to work very, very hard."
– Helen Gurley Brown

"You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses."
– Ziggy

"All successful leaders place a premium on keeping their promises and commitments."

Twenty Years Young

Wrote this when I was planning my next step after college:

I am an inspired twenty years young,
So much growing, my ambition is like a song waiting to be sung.
I am a grateful daughter raised by a family of individuals still dreaming
A full life ahead,
so many have always said:
"You can do anything," "...that is if you set your mind to it."

She's as quiet as a mouse
Lost in the cracks of the house
No one knows
The pain she holds
She faces the world up close
Their fake love is just another daily dose
Of the shit instilling shame, guilt, and fear
Into her tears
She cries out
But no one hears a single shout
It's all too subtle, because she's as quiet as a mouse

So who does she have to confide?
She's lost her way
Others too surface to see her dismay
She must find her own
Loud and boisterous tone
To strengthen the power behind her voice
It is now a choice
She knows there is more out there
She wonders is it worth the bear?

Growing Up

A bright green bud pokes out from the ground
Sprouts up in the air and takes a look around
So many other colorful and lively flowers surround
Look at this place where I am found

I receive love and care
So I give it back freely as if there is no reason to spare
All I see is love; all I know is love, so all I give is love

One day, I start to see changes in the world around me
One by one they start to leave me
I am alone

Something feels different, but I cannot see
I’m afraid to ask, maybe it’s just me
I love the motion of your eyes as you gaze ever so gently at the beauty around you
If only others knew, or even had the slightest clue
To understand the intense passion you feel for living
The need for giving
A desire as sweet as the cheerful smile of a young child
Innocent and free
You run into the wild
Nothing is holding you back
You fear nothing
Yet anticipate everything

My chest tightens, I’m suffocating.
All I can imagine is hating.

My eyes fill with tears, preparing to release pure sadness.
All I can imagine is a huge, huge mess.

Everything fades blurry, I stare straight ahead, looking at nothing.
All I can imagine is pain is everything.

My lips begin to tremble, I’m losing control.
All I can imagine is falling into a deep, dark hole.

My heart loses feeling, it’s now numb, frozen, and hard.
All I can imagine is nothing will get past this guard.

My body’s stiff, it’s in shock.
All I can imagine is blending in the Earth as a rock.

What happened to my life? My soul? My spirit?
All I can imagine is I completely fear it.

I no longer feel human, I feel worthless.
All I can imagine is my world is hopeless.

Finding the Way Back Home

I feel the power deep down in my soul
I am whole
I’m coming home
To the place I’ve missed for so long
It’s like that old familiar song

Oh what is wrong, my dear
Pick your smile up off the floor
It’s time to say no more
I’ve had enough
This road’s sure as hell been so damn rough
Tripping and falling over and over
I’ve sacrificed too much, now it’s time for closure

Who are you say
It’s not my day
I don’t deserve happy
Screw your misery, you’re way too sappy

You keep doing the same things over and over
Expecting things to change
You know it’s insane
Get on board a different train

Fight your fears
With every one of your tears
Flow with the currents of the ocean
There’s no magic potion
You are all you’ve got
Don’t forget what you’ve been taught
You’ll make it through this time
You’re no longer a mime
You’ve found your voice
Now it’s your choice
